Care & Maintenance
Your Fire Bowl will naturally develop a protective patina over time. To keep it in the best condition, we recommend applying a protective treatment with Owatrol Oil whenever the bowl shows signs of heavy oxidisation, or at least once a year as part of routine maintenance.
Before treating the bowl, ensure it is completely cold. Remove the beads and clean the bowl with a scouring pad to remove any loose surface oxidisation. Apply a light, even coat of Owatrol Oil using a cloth, then wipe away any excess. Allow the bowl to dry fully before using it again.
Only apply protective oil to the Fire Bowl and stand. Never apply it to cooking accessories such as grills, cookware, or pans. To keep your cooking grill in good condition, lightly oil it with vegetable oil after cleaning.
The beads should be cleaned regularly to maintain proper airflow, effective drainage, and safe performance. Keeping both the bowl and beads clean helps protect the steel, prolong the lifespan of your Kadai, and ensure consistent performance.
For the best protection, we recommend using the Kadai Care Kit and storing it away when not in use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my Kadai Fire Bowl rust?
Yes. As the Kadai is manufactured from steel, a light layer of surface rust is a natural part of its ageing process when exposed to heat and the elements. This will not affect its strength or performance and helps create the distinctive character and patina that makes every Kadai unique.
What's the difference between the Cooking Bowl and the Skillet?
If you enjoy preparing slow-cooked dishes, curries, stews or other sauce-based recipes, the Cooking Bowl is the ideal choice thanks to its deeper design. For everyday frying, searing and more versatile cooking, the Skillet offers a shallower profile that's perfect for everything from breakfast to steaks and vegetables.
Can I leave my Kadai Fire Bowl outdoors all year?
Your Kadai is designed for outdoor use and can remain outside throughout the year. However, to prolong its life and maintain its appearance, we recommend storing it in a shed or under permanent cover during the winter months or prolonged periods of wet weather.
How often should I treat my Kadai with oil?
Apply a light coat of protective oil whenever the bowl begins to show signs of heavy surface oxidation, or as part of your annual maintenance routine. This helps preserve the finish and slow the natural weathering process.
Where should I position my Kadai?
Always place your Kadai on a firm, level, fire-resistant surface such as stone, paving, gravel or compacted ground. Avoid placing it directly onto wooden decking, dry grass or other combustible surfaces unless suitable heat protection is used.
